1:21 am - Today's Moment of Science
For my English Regents Exam (the NY State HS Graduation Exam) the essay topic was "A Lesson From History." As I sat there, with the thought of having to pee in my mind, I decided to tell the #10 story of the Top 10 Moments in Space Bathroom History, which I had heard at Space Camp a few years before, and finish the essay with "this is a lesson I should have taken personally, cause I have to go to the bathroom now." Apparently it was so well written, and amused my teacher enough, that I got full points on the essay.

8:24 pm - Horrible Timing
So I'm majorly stressed out. My boss is having me do a major presentation on Friday that she can't give because she'll be out of town for another research project. She also wants the grant I'm writing finished by Friday, which I thought I had at least another week on. I hate writing letters about myself that are supposed to come from other people, and I have six to write for this grant (I almost hugged the one person who is actually writing his own letter). Additionally, after hearing back from the agency I'm submitting to, I have to write an additional section for the grant that I thought I didn't need.

Oh, and to add to it all, I just got back from the doctor, and I have a sinus infection, complete with earache, sore throat, post-nasal drip and swollen glands.

10:59 pm - Were the Wold Mine
So i just finished watching Were the World Mine. The premiss of the movie is a young gay man is cast in the role of Puck in his school's production of Midsummer's Night Dream, and then ends up finding the recipe for Puck's love potion. He becomes the Puck for his small town, giving various homophobes the experience of what it's like on the other side. True to the inspiration, those fall in love with those who they should not, and madness ensues.

It got me thinking of what I would do with such a recipe. I would not use it to make people gay, but on all the shallow gay men out there, and make them love someone who doesn't fit their A&F-wearing-techno-dancing-image-obsessed notion of beauty and attraction. Hell, maybe I'd do the same to the shallow straight men and women out there to show them that they don't have to be sheep, and beauty exists in unexpected places.
