4:05 am - Stuff For Sale at Half.com
|
So I'm cleaning my bookshelves and getting rid of books, DVDs and CDs that I don't need in hopes of bringing in some extra income in the process. They are all listed at http://shops.half.ebay.com/schnuder12 and includes many gaming books that are otherwise hard to find.

2:15 am - Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
|
The latest meme going around is a version of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test. While a fun and entertaining test, the Myers-Briggs, for many reasons has limited reliability and validity. So like most people in psychology and mental health, I recommend not taking the results too seriously. For more information see the wikipedia article at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers-Briggs_Type_Indicator. Brian Dunning did a very good piece on it recently which you can listen to at skeptoid.com/episodes/4221.

I Am A: Lawful Good Human Wizard (5th Level)
Ability Scores:
Strength-10
Dexterity-12
Constitution-11
Intelligence-15
Wisdom-14
Charisma-11
Alignment: Lawful Good A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. He combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. He tells the truth, keeps his word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion. However, lawful good can be a dangerous alignment because it restricts freedom and criminalizes self-interest.
Race: Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.
Class: Wizards are arcane spellcasters who depend on intensive study to create their magic. To wizards, magic is not a talent but a difficult, rewarding art. When they are prepared for battle, wizards can use their spells to devastating effect. When caught by surprise, they are vulnerable. The wizard's strength is her spells, everything else is secondary. She learns new spells as she experiments and grows in experience, and she can also learn them from other wizards. In addition, over time a wizard learns to manipulate her spells so they go farther, work better, or are improved in some other way. A wizard can call a familiar- a small, magical, animal companion that serves her. With a high Intelligence, wizards are capable of casting very high levels of spells.

2:33 pm - Going to Italy
|
In April I'm going to Florence, Italy for work. I was considering staying a few extra days to see the city and perhaps travel around Italy. However I have no idea how'd I go about seeing Italy, though I've wanted to, especially Venice and don't speak Italian. Work is paying for the flights and for the hotel in Florance. I can take a train between Florence and Venice, but have no idea how to go about actually seeing the city or where to stay. Can anyone help? I need to make travel arrangements soon.

4:16 pm - Sleep Aids

From the Blog Science-Based Medicine:
Current medical journal writing is often an excellent replacement for Ambien, even when you are fascinated by the topic. To call it the medical ‘literature’ is to refer to the phonebook as literature.

For my English Regents Exam (the NY State HS Graduation Exam) the essay topic was "A Lesson From History." As I sat there, with the thought of having to pee in my mind, I decided to tell the #10 story of the Top 10 Moments in Space Bathroom History, which I had heard at Space Camp a few years before, and finish the essay with "this is a lesson I should have taken personally, cause I have to go to the bathroom now." Apparently it was so well written, and amused my teacher enough, that I got full points on the essay.
